En 2012, \u00e0 la suite de la plainte d\u00e9pos\u00e9e par plusieurs victimes, une instruction a \u00e9t\u00e9 ouverte. Arr\u00eat\u00e9e en 2014 pour suspicion de crimes de guerre et de crimes contre l\u2019humanit\u00e9, Martina Johnson est accus\u00e9e par le parquet belge d\u2019avoir particip\u00e9 directement \u00e0 des pers\u00e9cutions et \u00e0 des massacres commis \u00e0 la fin de l'ann\u00e9e 1992, lors de l'Op\u00e9ration Octopus, une offensive militaire tristement c\u00e9l\u00e8bre men\u00e9e contre la capitale du Lib\u00e9ria.<br>&nbsp;<br>Une premi\u00e8re audience s\u2019est tenue le 30 septembre 2025 devant la chambre du conseil du tribunal de premi\u00e8re instance de Gand, \u00e0 l\u2019issue de laquelle <a href=\"https:\/\/civitas-maxima.org\/fr\/after-over-10-years-the-investigation-phase-of-the-case-against-martina-johnson-is-closed\/\">le juge a consid\u00e9r\u00e9<\/a> que l\u2019enqu\u00eate men\u00e9e par les autorit\u00e9s judiciaires depuis 2012 a r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9 suffisamment de charges \u00e0 l\u2019encontre de Martina Johnson et ainsi, justifie son \u00e9ventuel renvoi devant une cour d\u2019assises.<br>&nbsp;<br>La chambre des mises en accusation, seule juridiction proc\u00e9duralement comp\u00e9tente pour saisir la cour d\u2019assises, a confirm\u00e9 aujourd\u2019hui l\u2019existence de charges suffisantes pour renvoyer Martina Johnson devant la cour d\u2019assises de Gand afin d\u2019y \u00eatre jug\u00e9e.<br>&nbsp;<br>\u00c0 la suite de la d\u00e9cision rendue aujourd\u2019hui, les parties attendent d\u00e9sormais la confirmation de la date du proc\u00e8s. Cette d\u00e9cision, tant attendue, constitue une avanc\u00e9e cruciale dans la longue qu\u00eate de justice des victimes. In 2012 werd naar aanleiding van een klacht van verschillende slachtoffers een onderzoek geopend. Martina Johnson werd in 2014 gearresteerd op verdenking van oorlogsmisdaden en misdaden tegen de mensheid. Het Belgische openbaar ministerie beschuldigt haar van directe betrokkenheid bij vervolgingen en moordpartijen die eind 1992 plaatsvonden tijdens Operatie Octopus, een beruchte militaire aanval op de hoofdstad van Liberia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Op 30 september 2025 vond een eerste zitting plaats voor de raadkamer van de rechtbank van eerste aanleg te Gent, waarna de rechter oordeelde dat het onderzoek dat sinds 2012 door de gerechtelijke autoriteiten werd gevoerd, voldoende bewijs tegen Martina Johnson aan het licht had gebracht om haar eventueel voor het hof van assisen te brengen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">De kamer van inbeschuldigingstelling, de enige onderzoeksgerecht&nbsp;die procedureel bevoegd is om een inverdenkinggestelde naar het hof van assisen te verwijzen, heeft vandaag bevestigd dat er voldoende bewijs is om Martina Johnson voor het hof van assisen van Gent te verwijzen om daar te worden veroordeeld.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Na de uitspraak van vandaag wachten de partijen nu op de startdatum van het proces. Deze langverwachte beslissing is een cruciale stap voorwaarts in de lange zoektocht naar gerechtigheid voor de slachtoffers. Ze komt 14 jaar na het begin van het onderzoek en 34 jaar na Operatie Octopus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;Civitas Maxima en het Global Justice and Research Project werken in deze zaak samen met de vertegenwoordiger van de slachtoffers, mr.
