On June 16 Civitas Maxima attended the “Strategies and prospects in prosecuting enforced disappearances: harmonizing the law and coordinating actors” seminar. This expert seminar aimed at better understanding the causes of enforced disappearances’ poor record of criminal convictions and formulating strategies to put in place to remedy this situation.

Impunity for past human rights violations and transitional justice: Joint Stakeholder Report for the Universal Periodic Review of Liberia

On 7th of April, a group of Liberian and international NGOs, including Civitas Maxima, submitted a joint stakeholder report to the Human Rights Council, assessing the progress made by Liberia since the country’s last review in November 2020 and providing concrete recommendations for the years to come.

Universal Jurisdiction Annual Review 2025: Universal jurisdiction as a pillar in the fight against impunity

TRIAL International, in collaboration with Civitas Maxima, the Center for Justice and Accountability, the European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights, the International Federation for Human Rights, and REDRESS, published the 2025 edition of the Universal Jurisdiction Annual Review, which compiles developments in 95 extraterritorial and universal jurisdiction cases prosecuted in 16 countries.
